What an inspiring start!
This morning’s Opening Ceremony set the tone for an ambitious three days, with regional leaders highlighting the Basque Country’s commitment to driving the energy transition.
Elixabete Etxanobe, President of the Government of Bizkaia, opened the session with a strong message about Bilbao’s role as a hub for sustainable energy innovation. She was followed by Mayor Juan Mari Aburto; Mikel Jauregi, Minister for Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability of the Basque Government; and Mario Ruiz Tagle, CEO of Iberdrola Spain - each reinforcing the region’s dedication to accelerating progress.
The next few days will be a whirlwind of high-level strategic sessions, innovative technologies, and great networking.

Bilbao Brings the Energy!
After an unforgettable evening at the Sunset Summit inside the iconic Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, day 2 kicked off with fresh momentum and a clear focus on Iberian renewables and the technologies reshaping Europe’s energy landscape.
Across the Summit and Hubs, discussions honed in on hybrid solutions, storage, system flexibility and smart integration - practical innovations that are moving from concept to real-world application. From grids and renewables to hydrogen and AI, today’s conversations showed how the transition is becoming more dynamic, interconnected and hands-on.
And with one more day to go, the energy on-site shows no sign of slowing.
⚡️ Join the Think Tank Workshop tomorrow!
10:00 @ the Evolve Stage
With system resilience now perceived as a pressing issue that needs to be tackled, this year’s Think Tank Workshop, entitled "What do we need to do to create greater energy system resilience?" will explore what the industry can do to strengthen the resilience of Europe’s energy system.
The workshop will approach the issue from a holistic, industry-wide and pan-European driven perspective, exploring the topic from 6 different angles:
- Physical and infrastructure resilience
- Cybersecurity and digital resilience
- Supply chain and resource resilience
- Energy system flexibility and reliability
- Utility resilience frameworks in response to major (climate) events
- Governance, policy, and social resilience
Featuring a fun interactive format, each working group will discuss pros and cons and is tasked with coming up with a series of practical recommendations that can be taken forward and shared.
