Nerea is a learning designer, urbanist, and researcher dedicated to transforming cities through systemic innovation, collaboration, and place-based learning. She currently works with Climate-KIC as a Learning Designer and Facilitator, developing systemic approaches to sustainability transitions and collaborative urban transformation. As an Associate Professor at the Universidad de Navarra, she teaches advanced urbanism courses and explores how cities can evolve as living systems capable of learning and adaptation. Her academic background is complemented by her research role at Deusto CitiesLab Katedra, where she has led and co-developed European projects such as UNIC, EUREKA, and CHIC. She also served as local director for the UNIC Centre for City Futures and the Erasmus Mundus Master in Re-designing the Post-Industrial City (RePIC). Between 2018 and 2025, she co-founded Aranbarri + Acilu, a collaborative urbanism and citizen participation studio. Her PhD, defended at the University of Deusto with Summa Cum Laude distinction, focused on urban living labs and governance for human development—analysing European models of participatory urban regeneration.
