Gerald Aue
Gerald has more than 20 years of experience in energy sector consulting. He has been working on a broad variety of cases in the electricity, gas and district heating industry. His clients are predominantly based in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as other EU and Energy Community countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
His notable experience in the natural gas sector includes gas market model design, regulatory questions of gas transmission, distribution, storage and LNG regasification, strategy and M&A projects within the gas industry, the decarbonization of the gas sector, questions of gas procurement, portfolio management, risk management and retailing as well as the support of gas sector arbitrations and competition investigations.
In the field of hydrogen and green gases, Gerald has been developing market entry strategies for hydrogen project developers, support strategies for green hydrogen, market analyses for green hydrogen and its derivatives, and studies on the future role of underground hydrogen storage. He is currently leading the development of the modelling framework for the European biomethane market at Compass Lexecon.
For the district heating industry, Gerald has been providing economic and modelling support for strategy development and investment appraisals (with a strong focus on decarbonization), has conducted due diligence analyses and provided advise on the regulatory framework for district heating (incl. comprehensive financial modelling of the impact of economic regulation of district heating on long term company performance) as well as support during sector inquiries.
For the electricity sector Gerald has been working on decarbonisation scenario studies (including the modelling of demand flexibility from electrifying heating & mobility and the impact of decarbonisation on distribution grid investments), market design studies, due diligence analyses for renewable generation assets and integrated electricity utilities (generation, retail, distribution), the analysis of security of supply and the financial modelling of PPAs as well as the analysis of flexibility marketing on wholesale and ancillary services markets.
Gerald is a native German speaker and fluent in English, with conversational knowledge of French.
He holds a master’s degree in engineering from Vienna University of Technology and an MBA from Warwick Business School. He is also a CFA charterholder, and a certified Energy Risk Professional (ERP).
