George Andreakos holds the position of Grid Operations Director at HEDNO since July 2023 and leads the smart grid strategy initiatives for the organisation. Prior to this, he lived in the United Kingdom for over 20 years, where he worked at Electricity North West across all areas of the company, starting on the graduate program, then as an engineer and a manager specializing in protection systems, construction, and maintenance of electrical systems. He has participated in research programs of distribution network operators both in the USA and the UK. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, a Chartered Engineer with the IET, and also a member of the Working Group on Climate Risks and Adaptation of the E.DSO Policy & Regulation Committee, a member of the CIRED Networks Advisory Group on Network Components, and for years served as Chair of the Executive Committee of the IET Manchester Network. He is a reviewer for international scientific journals and organizations, and his work has been published in them. He is a Senior Authorised Person up to 132kV for UK DNOs. His interests include smart grid technologies and resilience.
