Craig McLean
Craig McLean is a dedicated and experienced Senior Project Engineer with a progressive career in the electricity distribution industry, beginning in February 2013 with SP Energy Networks. Starting as an Apprentice Overhead Linesperson, Craig developed a strong technical foundation and a deep passion for the energy sector. Upon completing his apprenticeship, he served as a fully authorised Linesperson within the Lanarkshire district, gaining hands-on experience in network operations, fault response, and customer connections.
In December 2020, Craig transitioned into a Project Coordinator role within the Lanarkshire Delivery Team. In this capacity, he was responsible for managing and coordinating low voltage fault responses during operational hours, ensuring timely deployment of resources and supporting field teams with effective repair strategies.
Building on his operational expertise, Craig advanced to the role of Project Engineer in December 2021 within the Network Analytics and Support team (formerly Low Voltage Support). Here, he played a pivotal role in leveraging substation monitoring and data analytics to proactively identify and mitigate potential network issues. His work focused on developing pre-fault designs and projects to reinforce the network and enhance reliability.
Most recently promoted to Senior Project Engineer, Craig now leads innovative initiatives that integrate smart meter and monitoring data into core business operations. His efforts are driving the transition of advanced analytics from pilot projects to business-as-usual practices, supporting smarter, more efficient network management across the organisation.
