Carlos Madina
B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering in 2001 and Ph.D. in Electric Power Systems in 2018, both at the University of the Basque Country. Since 2001, he has been working at TECNALIA’s Energy, Climate and Urban Transition Unit. His main field of expertise is the economic analysis of innovative business models for distributed energy resources, microgrids, energy communities and the use of flexibility to support the operation of smart grids, mostly in the European context. Carlos also followed the process of the creation of the EU’s electricity market and gained knowledge about the regulatory frameworks and electricity market conditions in several European countries. Carlos has led the economic and business models analyses in several publicly co-funded projects, as well as in dedicated projects for the main Spanish utilities and the TSO. In addition, Carlos participated in several working groups, both with national (Spanish platforms for smart grids, wind power, storage promotion…) and international (EERA, WindEurope, BRIDGE, CIGRE, IEA/DSM...) scopes. He co-authored several books (about TSO-DSO coordination, about Demand Side Management, about Hydrogen technologies), scientific publications (24 of which are indexed in Scopus), and presentations at specialised conferences. He is also a regular reviewer in several Q1 scientific journals and supports in the revision of project proposals both the Spanish Government and KIC INNOENERGY.
