GRDF Climate Change Adaptation Plan for Gas Distribution Network Resilience
GRDF designs, builds, maintains, and operates 207,000 km of natural gas and biomethane distribution network in France for 11 million customers.
As a public service operator, GRDF is responsible for ensuring continuity of delivery for all customers and suppliers. In particular, we must assess and prevent the consequences of climate change on our activities with the necessary adaptations and investments. This has been a major challenge for GRDF for several years.
We analyse all climatic events (floods, torrential rains, landslides, heat waves, drought, winds, forest fires, etc.) according to the latest medium- and long-term climate scenarios. GRDF's network is generally resilient thanks to the industrial safety investments made. Some investments and adaptation of operating procedures, however, must be planned to deal with the climatic hazards studied.
