Zombie Technologies on Europe’s Roads? The Risks of "Technological neutrality" post-2035
By the end of 2025, the European Commission will propose a revision of the regulation. This review may consider alternative low-carbon technologies, including synthetic fuels, biofuels, hybrids, and range-extended electric vehicles (EREVs). While these technologies are often presented as solutions, they risk prolonging the use of internal combustion engines, increasing costs, and creating regulatory uncertainty.
This panel will examine the implications of “technological neutrality” post-2035, exploring how the inclusion of fossil-dependent alternatives could undermine Europe’s transition to a sustainable, energy-efficient, and future-proof zero-emission mobility system.
