The presentation addresses innovation that targets the key challenges faced in grid system planning and operation. It highlights the opportunities for the enhancement of grid capacity that are presented by digitalisation that enables the integration of large volumes of inverter-based renewable energy sources and provides features that improve system reliability and security of supply. The benefits offered by using high-performance telecommunication and adopting the reference architecture for grid system digitalisation are explained.
