Type of Organisation
METAWAVE is a three-year EU-funded project aiming to make
industrial heating cleaner, faster, and more efficient by using innovative
microwave technology. METAWAVE brings together 20 partners
from 9 countries (Spain,
Greece, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Lithuania, Austria, Finland, Swiss) - including businesses, universities, and research
organisations - to drive innovation, support sustainable industry, and promote
open science and circular economy solutions. By replacing traditional
high-temperature heating methods, METAWAVE hopes to cut energy use,
reduce CO₂ emissions, and boost productivity. The project also explores new
eco-friendly materials, smarter control systems, and the use of renewable
energy through a virtual power plant. Expected results by 2032 include
saving 420 GWh of energy, avoiding over 95,000 tons of CO₂ emissions,
increasing productivity by 19%, creating over new jobs, and generating more
than €230 million in revenue. The project will be tested in real
factories in the ceramics, asphalt, and aluminium industries.
