Italgas is the leading company in natural gas distribution in Italy, Greece, and, after the acquisition of 2i Rete Gas, the largest in Europe. With a network that exceeds ~155,000 kilometres of gas pipelines and serving nearly 13 million gas customers in Italy and Greece, Italgas distributes about 13 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Since 2023, the group has also entered the water sector (servizio idrico). Through its subsidiary Nepta and acquisitions (Veolia’s water concessions, Acqua Campania, Acqualatina, Siciliacque, etc.), it now serves about 6.2‑6.3 million people (directly and indirectly) in the water sector across regions such as Lazio, Campania, and Sicily. The water distribution network managed is also significant, with nearly 9,000 kilometres of water pipelines under its administration (as of 2024). Italgas combines its expertise in gas with its ambitions in water management, placing emphasis on digitalization of infrastructure, reducing network losses, and improving service quality in both sectors.
