Bausch Datacom is a Belgian company, founded in 1987, that develops and manufactures both hardware and software communication products for the utility sector — including electricity and water — as well as smart electronics for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
The company focuses on two main areas:
- Smart Gateways and Modems using technologies such as PSTN, GSM, GPRS, 4G–5G, LTE, NB-IoT, LoRa, and RF 169 MHz. These include modems, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), and data loggers.
- Electronics for EV charging stations, particularly RTUs and related smart control devices.
Bausch Datacom is part of the German Ritter Group. Its main customers include electricity network operators, meter manufacturers, EV charging solution providers, and system integrators in the utility sector. Most of these customers are based in Europe and include organizations such as Eandis, Infrax, Sibelga, ORES, Enel (Italy), eNovates, Public Power Corporation (Greece), SIG (Switzerland), RESenergy (Spain), Koenders Instruments (Netherlands), Iskra-Emeco (Slovenia), and iTron (France).
The company’s R&D center, located in Leuven, Belgium, handles both hardware and software development. Firmware and back-office management software are developed in collaboration with RiTTec, a sister company within the Ritter Group.

Technology
Monitoring the electrical grid requires a flexible and durable system that can operate effectively for many years. This begins with EDGE platforms (Remote Terminal Units) in the field — robust devices designed to keep pace with the rapid advancements in grid technology. These units must be powerful enough to support firmware upgrades that align with the evolving needs of electricity distribution companies.
At the same time, a comprehensive Management Tool – Firmware Upgrades Monitoring of gateways – Asset management – Automatic Commissioning - is essential to oversee and control these field devices. This tool must also be designed for long-term use, with the ability to evolve and integrate new features as technology advances.
Our Management System and device firmware are built based on a NIS2/IEC62443/ISO27001 philosophy in mind.

Green Energy vision
Several companies — including Sunified, Rittec, Zaisan, Value X, eNovates, and Bausch Datacom — have recently joined forces to develop new technology that enables capitalization and trading systems for individuals and organizations based on green energy sources such as solar parks, EV infrastructure, and battery storage. These systems also take into account their impact on electricity grids.
A key element of this initiative is the introduction of tokenization, built on blockchain and crypto anchoring technologies originating from the financial sector. Complementary innovations such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and open-source protocols play a crucial role as well.
By combining these technologies, the partners aim to create and deploy a global system for ownership and trading of green energy. This platform will also provide services to Distribution System Operators (DSOs), helping them manage and understand the impact of this new evolution in the energy market.
