MultiRAT revolution in water metering – stable data transmission anywhere
)
The next-generation meter
addresses this problem by using MultiRAT — a system that enables one device to
simultaneously support three communication channels: NB-IoT, LoRaWAN, and
Wireless M-Bus. The meter automatically determines which technology offers the
best signal and data transmission stability at the moment and switches to it
without user intervention. This not only simplifies installation but makes the
entire project more reliable and resilient. By implementing such a solution,
operators get a single type of equipment suitable for all coverage areas and
can confidently plan expansion without the risk of communication failures.
The new meter is not just a
universal communication device, but also a high-precision measuring instrument.
It is based on time-tested ultrasonic technology with no moving parts and
maintains high accuracy throughout its entire lifespan. The device is designed
for diverse conditions — from urban networks to remote areas, from apartment
buildings to commercial facilities and distributed infrastructure systems. Its
housing is resistant to moisture, dust, and mechanical impact, while built-in
diagnostic algorithms can detect abnormal situations in real time: leaks, dry
run, tampering attempts, magnet use, reverse flow, and low battery. All events
are logged and transmitted to the management system, providing full operational
transparency.
The meter is available in two
versions — with and without a shut-off valve. The valve version allows for
remote water shutoff or flow limitation, enabling scenarios like prepayment,
consumption limits, or emergency cutoffs. This provides an additional level of
control and enables utilities to respond quickly to debts, leaks, or
violations. The non-valve version is used where precise measurement and
reliable data transmission are needed — for example, in residential buildings
or network upgrades.
The device fully integrates
with ADD GRUP’s communication and server ecosystem, including Head-End
Software, cloud interfaces, visualization and analytics tools, and apps for
operators and users. Data transmission uses standard protocols, ensuring compatibility
with existing billing, CRM, and SCADA systems. Flexibility in choosing the
system architecture — from centralized to decentralized — allows adaptation to
any customer need, from small municipalities to national water operators.
Thus, the new MultiRAT water
meter is a comprehensive solution combining measurement accuracy, smart
management, and full independence from coverage conditions. It reduces
deployment risks, cuts down on field visits, minimizes emergencies, and
simplifies commissioning. It is a step forward in developing digital water
supply systems that makes smart metering more accessible, reliable, and
economically viable.
