JPEmbedded partners with Phoenix Contact to deliver embedded R-GOOSE Gateway on multiservice industrial switching platform
The collaboration brings a unified, embedded solution for extending GOOSE (Generic Object Oriented Substation Event) communication across local and wide area networks in IEC 61850-based substations, enhancing interoperability, security, and system efficiency.
Traditionally, GOOSE messages—used by Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) such as protection relays—operate only within local networks, limiting communication in modern distributed energy systems. By integrating JPEmbedded’s R-GOOSE Gateway into Phoenix Contact’s substation-hardened EP Raptor platform, operators can now seamlessly convert between Layer 2 and Routable GOOSE (R-GOOSE) messages within one device, while minimizing additional hardware, power consumption, and cabling.
This combined solution delivers the performance and reliability of Phoenix Contact’s EP Raptor hardware —featuring 64 Gb/s line speed, redundant hot-swappable power supplies, and modular computing options—together with JPEmbedded’s proven expertise in IEC 61850 communications. The integrated gateway enables secure, authenticated, and encrypted R-GOOSE message exchange across networks, ensuring flexibility, interoperability, and no disruption to existing field-deployed IEDs.
“Our partnership with JPEmbedded demonstrates Phoenix Contact’s commitment to innovation and interoperability in substation automation,” said Eric Reichert, Director of Product – Automation, for Phoenix Contact USA. “By combining our rugged EP Raptor series switch platform with JPEmbedded’s advanced R-GOOSE technology, we’re enabling utilities to extend real-time, secure communication across their networks without additional hardware or complex system changes.”
“We’re excited to collaborate with Phoenix Contact to bring our R-GOOSE Gateway into an industrial-grade networking platform,” said Jan Mazan, CEO of JPEmbedded. “As the grid evolves toward more distributed and connected architectures, this partnership ensures utilities can securely exchange protection and control data between substations while maintaining full compliance with IEC 61850 and IEC 62351-9 standards.”
