Gianluigi Migliavacca: received the M.Sc. degree (1991) in Electronic Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy. He is Project Manager at “Ricerca sul Sistema Energetico - RSE S.p.A.” (Milano, Italy). For more than ten years, he has covered important roles in key EU Research projects. He was coordinator of the European FP7 research project REALISEGRID (2008-2011), then work package leader in the key EU project eHIGHWAY2050 (2012-2015), aimed at creating a Modular Plan for electricity highways in Europe till 2050. More recently, he was coordinator of the Horizon2020 research project SmartNet (2016-2019) aimed at analysing TSO-DSO coordination for allowing participation of distribution to ancillary services markets. Presently, he is again project coordinator of the newly started Horizon2020 project FlexPlan, aimed at creating a new tool for optimizing T&D grid planning, considering the placement of flexibility (storage, PEV, demand response) in T&D networks as an alternative to traditional grid planning. He is also involved in the Horizon2020 project INTERRFACE where he is responsible for designing ancillary services use cases including participation from resources in distribution. Additionally, he is leader of Focus Area Expansion Planning and Market analysis within the Annex 6 of the IEA implementing agreement ISGAN, member of the technical committee TC 6.3. Power Plants and Power Systems of IFAC.
