David Rua is an Assistant Coordinator for the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES), one of INESC TEC's research units. Before being coordinator, David Rua was responsible for the X-Energy Management Systems area of CPES, an area dedicated to the development of interoperable energy management solutions for buildings. David is the project leader of the InterConnect project, and he has been responsible for other H2020 projects, in the energy area. His interest areas involve the use of communications systems for electric networks operation and the management of energy resources to provide flexibility services.

He holds a PhD in Sustainable Energy Systems from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (Portugal) since 2014. David Rua received his M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Instituto Superior T'cnico (Lisboa, Portugal), in 2008, and a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.
