Press Conference: Grid modernization call to action
Join Ericsson, EUTC and utilities industry partners for the launch of ‘A Tipping Point for Europe’s Energy System: Why Resilience Must Power the Next Era of Energy’ at 12pm on 18 November 2025 at the Inspire Stage at ENLIT, Bilbao.
A new white paper developed by Ericsson, EUTC and European power utilities examines the urgent challenge of securing Europe’s energy supply amid accelerating decarbonization, growing distributed energy resources and rising electrification, and explains how modern telecommunications – mission-critical communications – can underpin a more resilient, efficient and secure grid – delivering 1 trillion euros of social wellbeing and economic growth value for Europe in the period 2025-2030.
It outlines the increasing risks from cyber and physical attacks, extreme weather and system failures; assesses why fragmented legacy communications across generation, transmission and distribution are unable to meet low-latency, high-availability operational needs; and maps practical steps to strengthen resilience in the energy system thanks to standards-based, interoperable mission-critical communications, real-world lessons from deployments, and the policy, utility and technology actions required.
A Tipping Point for Europe’s Energy System: Why Resilience Must Power the Next Era of Energy concludes with a clear call to action for policymakers, utilities and the technology ecosystem to collaborate on modernized telecoms as an essential enabler of Europe’s grid modernization and resilience.
During the session, the following speakers will be on stage for a presentation of the white paper’s key insights, followed by a moderated panel discussion and Q&A:
Pilar Rodríguez López, Head of Energy and Utilities in Europe, Middle East and Africa, Ericsson, Ericsson
Adrian Grilli, EUTC Technology Advisor
Koustuv Ghoshal, Global Head of Mission Critical Communications for Utilities, Ericsson
Sergio Ramos Pinto, EUTC Vice Chair, and Director of Networking & Communications, Electricity Distribution in Portugal (EDP)
