Introduction by the chairperson - Part 1: Grid Investments: Why Europe needs them?
01 Dec 2021
Grids Hub Theatre 8 (Hall 8)
Session: Grid Investments: Enabling the EU Green Deal
The European electricity network needs investments in three areas: first, replacing ageing equipment in the installed base, second, increasing the hosting capacity for renewable energy sources and new loads like eMobility and, third, digitalisation to make the network smarter, more flexible and ensure and strengthen the grid's resilience. Done in a timely, coordinated and balanced manner will ensure cost-efficiency and is vital to the European transition to a climate-neutral society. T&D Europe is concerned that the current investments are insufficient. It is crucial to ensure the post-COVID19 recovery plans developed by individual countries as well as by the EU include the necessary grid infrastructure investments and facilitate the necessary speed of actions.
