Philip Fjeld
Philip Fjeld is CEO and co-founder of Euronext Growth Oslo listed ReFuels, a leading European renewable fuels infrastructure company focused on decarbonising heavy-duty transport through renewable biomethane (Bio-CNG). ReFuels is decarbonising Europe's truck fleet through its 40% ownership of CNG Fuels. This fully integrated clean fuel infrastructure platform combines sourcing biomethane, Renewable Transport Fuel Certificates (RTFCs) and ownership and operation of the UK's largest clean fuel station network.
Philip has worked in the natural gas and energy infrastructure sector since 2002, when he joined Höegh LNG. In 2006, he co-founded Flex LNG, pioneering the concept of floating LNG liquefaction vessels. FLEX LNG raised close to USD 600 million in equity and is listed on NYSE. Philip served as CEO from inception until 2013.
After stepping down as CEO of FLEX LNG, Philip assessed various decarbonisation pathways for transport and industry. His conclusion was that biomethane represents a reliable, cost-effective and immediately scalable solution, particularly for heavy goods vehicles where electrification remains challenging. This led him to found CNG Fuels in 2014.
CNG Fuels operates 16 high-capacity, public-access biomethane refuelling stations across major UK freight corridors and supplies customers including Amazon, Tesco, DHL and Royal Mail with 100% renewable Bio-CNG sourced from waste and distributed via the existing gas grid. By 2028, ReFuels targets capacity to refuel 20,000 HGVs per day, equivalent to a reduction of approximately 2 million tonnes of CO2 compared to diesel.
ReFuels, through RTFS, is also one of Europe’s largest buyers of unsubsidised biomethane, with integrated exposure to renewable fuel certificates. Philip brings a pragmatic infrastructure and financing perspective to the energy transition, with a focus on solutions that can be deployed using proven solutions and assets.
Philip holds a Master’s degree in Strategy and Management from the Norwegian School of Economics and began his career at sea as an officer in the Royal Norwegian Coast Guard and the merchant navy. He lives in London.
