In 2050, osmotic electricity will represent 15% of our global energy mix.
Sweetch Energy was created in 2015 to tackle climate change by expanding the frontiers of renewable energy with osmotic power, a massively available energy resource naturally liberated when fresh river water and seawater meet. Supported by leading investors and major industrial partners, Sweetch Energy has developed INOD®, the first osmotic power technology able to generate permanent, carbon-free and cost-effective electricity.
We are privileged to benefit from the support of renowned European and French institutions. In 2023 we proudly received numerous awards, including the international deep-tech Grand Prize of the Hello Tomorrow Global Challenge.
A global première in the renewable energy landscape.
In 2024, the first osmotic power station implementing the INOD® technology on an industrial scale will be launched.
Located on the Barcarin lock in Port Saint Louis (France), up to 500 MW of power will be gradually installed and distributed along the Rhône over the next decade. This represents carbon-free electricity for over 1.5 million people, the equivalent of the populations of Marseille, Barcelona, Amsterdam or Montreal.
A ground-breaking technology
The INOD® technology, developed by Sweetch Energy, uses a newly discovered physical phenomenon, ionic nano-osmotic diffusion, to generate ionic currents through its revolutionary membranes.
Hundreds of INOD® membranes are stacked in osmotic generators and coupled with electrodes to capture blue energy. Cost-efficient and modular, these generators also have unprecedented power outputs which makes harnessing the clean, permanent, and unscathed energy that is osmotic power possible.
